Letting Go

Letting Go

13.5″ diam – Paper: 22″ x 22″ – Color pencil

The hands in “Letting go” are delicately touching or holding onto the face of the figure. Is this a drawing of a memory or a dream? Whatever its meaning, the figure within the circular composition is intertwined with a set of disembodied hands.

This colorfully quiet color pencil drawing was inspired by a rough year health wise in 2019. As with a lot of my artwork, they are journal entries. This drawing is no different. It is a symbol of my journey while healing from surgery and coping with my cancer diagnosis and treatments. Maybe a part of the healing process is knowing when to let go. . . It is often a difficult choice to make in life. We have all had to let go of something, and I see this piece as an illustration of one such moment.
