"There is more than one way to paint a painting."

I find myself saying this to my students at Georgetown University every semester. The approach, technique and style you deploy in your painting really depends on what you are trying to say with your work. Not every artist needs to begin their work in the same fashion.

I Answer your questions

I always appreciate the emails and comments I receive from students, artists and those curious enough to write.  This blog post is for those of you that have asked me me questions over the years about my thoughts regarding my work, influences and how I envision my work moving forward. I think this post is best written in a question and answer format because I receive a lot of questions from students writing essays for school or studying my work in college and desiring to know more about me.

How I Stay Creative

Creativity ebbs and flows. Life brings with it times of plenty regarding creativity and can also be peppered with dry spells.  I don't always want to create something and it's a constant challenge finding ways to be creative. The major take away from the following list: Persevere, try to surround yourself with creative individuals and make it a central part of your daily routine.

Juror for Local Annual Awards Show

Four months ago I was approached by the Washington Printmakers Gallery to Jury the 20th Annual Small Works Competition. It's a member-run gallery in the heart of Georgetown that specializes in prints. II accepted the invitation to be the Juror this year and I had an enjoyable experience working with them and judging the artwork that was submitted from all over the country.
