Painting I : Multiplicity

Painting one students are now working on an image of their own choosing.   There are only three requirements for this painting.

1) The size : 24″ x 30″
2) An original photo
3) In the spirit of the project’s title “multiples”.

As you can see in the gallery below each student began the painting with a different colored background stain. The stain is based loosely on the photo and is meant to act as a unifying element. Choosing a stain can be tough and risky if you choose a color that is not analogous to the photo. This one layer will likely effect all the consecutive paint layers due to the simple fact that color is relative and they will effect each other. After the stain is applied, an under painting is done in a similar color to the oil stain.  Great start guys!
